Pennsylvania enacts Construction Industry Employee Verification Act

Pennsylvania has enacted the Construction Industry Employee Verification Act (House Bill 1170), which requires construction industry employers to use E-Verify to confirm that new hires are authorized to work in the United States. House Bill 1170 takes effect on October 7, 2020.

Ohio increases minimum wage for 2020

Nevada has enacted legislation (Senate Bill 312) that will require private-sector employers with 50 or more employees to provide paid leave to each employee effective January 1, 2020. The law requires paid leave be made available to employees to be used for any reason.

California raises minimum pay requirements for certain exemptions

The California Department of Industrial Relations has announced an increase to the pay rates computer software employees and physicians must receive in order to be exempt from overtime. Additionally, the minimum salary required for the administrative, professional, and executive overtime exemptions will also increase. These new rates take effect on January 1, 2020.
