The Chicago City Council has approved an Ordinance (O2016-2678) that will require employers to provide paid sick leave to employees beginning July 1, 2017.

Employers can regulate the on-duty conduct of their employees as long as they do not violate any law in the process.  But can an employee’s off-duty conduct also be regulated? What if an employee’s conduct contradicts an employer’s moral or political beliefs?  Below we address whether, and to what extent, an employee’s off-duty conduct can be regulated by an employer.
